Q: I will be based in Bahrain for a bridge project. Is there any time restriction working in Bahrain? As an addition Ramadhan is just a few months ahead, is there any special time during fasting month?

A: When working in Bahrain, the Ministy of Labour is very strict of a miximum of 8 working hours per day. No organization can make its employees work more, unless they get over-time payment. Also, there was a new policy released a couple of months ago, restricting construction companies and other companies that have laborers working outdoors to give all workers a bread from 12 noon to 4pm. The reason for that is the excessive heat in this period of time. This may mean that workers will have to work till late, but at least avoid direct heat from the sun. In Ramadhan, the maximum working hours are 6 hours per day. All organizations are restricted by this, as employees are assumed to be fasting and 8 hours is a bit too much for a fasting person.
