A: what the 2 people above said is correct..but as an American citizen (white) I have gotten really bad service from the US embassy myself!!! Once they tried to prevent me from entering by saying that the department I requested was called American citizen services,...and I was like you people are idiots! I AM an American citizen..I was so pissed after so many times being hassled that I went inside to write a formal complaint and no one would give me a pen..finally i waited until someone requested one for a form and stole it! It was bad but necisary. So far I have reported the Embassy in Cairo to the FBI, to my Senator, and have written many formal letters of complaint. They have recently changed Ambassadors..maybe for the following reason: The Embassy is now run by Egyptians who can speak basic english. several years ago you only saw american faces and clear accents and friendly attitudes. And don't think its because i am white and they are Egyptian because my Egyptian husband gets even worse treatment than me.... When he went to ask for a form..the man took one look at him and said to him in Arabic: "do you even speak english?" and he said "yes you idiot I'm an engineer." The American embassy in Cairo is suffocated with mafia like corruption.. that takes money for visas and jobs. I am not afraid to say so because its a truth I can prove, have proved, and been ignored... And this is NOT the case for all american embassies...the American Embassy in Tripoli, Libya is quite efficient and friendly...tell me how that makes sense??? My dear.. if you want a visa to USA... there are many types and you need to research what type you need...are you going to study? or work? or travel as tourist?..and yes it will take time and some trouble. Your best bet is to get an invitation from an employer or a university there. Try to find a friend or uncle or someone who is american citizen to sponsor you....this is required unless you are made of gold. BEST OF LUCK to you! And if you need the embassy here...don't be afraid to be forceful with them...demand everything in writing so that they can't lie and cheat you as they frequently do, the only way to get action there is to be pushy. Documents: you will need a new passport..not the old hand written ones... A birth certificate, and english translation financial statement from your bank, and english translation A photo ID (like drivers liscence..or school id, work id)
