how much do you think movies have influence on people?

Q: did movies influence you by any means, made you like or hate something, some race, or some country and after sometime you discovered you were wrong. @ kalooka thanks for answering, I'll tell you my experience but after I get some answers cause I don't want people start commenting on my experience and leave the main question ;) Edit: It seem that no one has a story to tell, all answers are general :) may be it's me who get influenced easily.

A: Yes it happens. But not in a extreme negative way as you describe. not against a whole race, or a whole country. Patriotic movies specially the American movies are very biased against its enemies (as the Vietnamese, or the Russian, or Arabs) and just profile them into characters of savages who are hunger for blood. they picture themselves as superiors to others. They recently started to picture a more moderate view in movies dealing with wars and political conflicts. However there is still a big Jewish influence in these movies when any Jewish character is involved. Movies of this kind were: "the Crash", "Babel" and "Munich" on the social drama level yes it affects me. When you watch a love story you get affected and sometimes changes your view of what love is. in Arabic movies i always liked "Ed7ak el soura tetla3 7elwa" for Ahmed Zaki, Karim AbdAziz, and Mona Zaki. this story really touched me. for American movies i liked "Changing Lanes" by Ben Affleck and Samuel Jackson, as we normally tend to do the good things, however we sometimes get in conflict and harm others, although we don't want that inside our selves. i also liked "Beautiful Mind" and "Senderela Man" both by Russell Crow, as it tells you that there is still always hope in your life to seek no matter how much you are suffering right now. Also movies that are so sad dramatically to the level you loose sympathy with its characters still have affects too. like "Unfaithful" and "American Beauty" some comedy movies have remarkable effects too like "Just Married", "meet the parents" It is noteworthy to remember that movie makers are aware for the influence of their movies, however they use it in commercial way to advertise certain image and certain way of life in order to promote certain consuming habits for useless tings like I Pod, Jeans brands, ...etc. ------------------------------- Edit: after all you have to see these movies (or even reading books) witha critical mind. dont be a passive recieptor and just get influenced easily as most of these movies represent personal experiences of its authors or cultural concepts that are not relevant actually to our society.
