Q: How can I buy jewelry on a Marrakesh and Casablanca famous bazaars?
A: This question brought back some memories. I worked in Algeria, just over the border from Morocco. A couple of us went into Morocco for a weekend, my friend bought jewelry for his wife, he just asked the price and cut it in half, he was happy the stall holder was happy, no problems. I wanted a very good quality leather jacket and a pair of shoes, dirt cheap in Morocco. I got what I was after, a great black leather jacket and a great pair of suede shoes. All taken back to Algeria. I didn't wear my new clothes until I was flying back home to the UK. Then disaster! I stood on one of those walking side walk things, put my suitcase down some folk must have thought it wasnt going fast enough and were rushing ahead. I got off at the end and I could hear a 'flip flop' sound every step I took. My new suede shoes had come apart at the soles, I bent down for a closer look and heard a large 'ripppp' the sleeve of my new jacket had come adrift at the shoulder. I reached customs with my jacket sleeve tucked under my arm, and my shoes flip flopping all over the place. I was stopped, the guy at customs had a silly smirk on his face. "Been to Morocco sir"? he asked. He said "carry on sir" had another big smirk and I carried on.
