Q: I was curious to know what ancient monuments/historical sites there are in Nigeria, but I cannot seem to find much. Nigeria has a very old history and many ethnic groups, so I feel like there should be a lot of interesting places... Have you been to or do you know of any historical sites in Nigeria?

A: Realistically, there are very very few such sites in Nigeria. This is because: Africans living in Nigeria long ago rarely used building materials that would last a long time, and Nigerians are terrible at valuing and preserving what little there is. The north is a little different -- cities like Kano have a few places where the old city wall -- or a German-built replica -- still exists, but honestly, unless you were going to Kano anyway, there's no way you should make a special trip just to see it. Jos has an outdoor architectural museum that's pretty interesting -- small-scale replicas of a few ancient mud-wall palaces.
