A question for the married Y/A users?

Q: Do you call your mother and father in law "Mom" and "Dad"? I never have and now sit with the problem that I never know what to call them when in conversation and especially when having to phone or call them for something specific, is it considered appropriate to call them by their Christian names or "Uncle + Name" etc or in South Africa "Oom" and "Tannie"? I have had no title for them for years now and it leads to peculiar situations every now and again? Skooby - For someone from such a materially differing background to myself you certainly do have alot in common with me. I do exactly the same but the processing sentences and deliberate construction of word order so as to avoid calling them "Mom" or "Dad" becomes tiring...... Cakes - No, my one brother in law is gay and the other is unmarried.

A: Why do you think that we live in a different country. My in-laws don't like me. I call them by their given names and my hubby calls my parents mom and dad. But then he is much closer to my parents than to his own. I know just how you feel. At first it was so awkward but after 14 years I don't feel bad calling them by their names. I think that is because they realised that their son was not going to get divorced and that I was here forever.
