Q: Hello! We are looking at taking a Safari vacation in Kruger National Park. I'm wondering if anyone has been there or has any advice on good places to stay. We are looking at staying at the bungalows in the park and are looking at four sites: Oliphnat, Satara, Bataleur or Letaba. Recommendations appreciated! We were in Monrovia, Liberia two years ago, so we understand the risks of overseas travel. I'd venture to guess that South Africa is less dangerous than Monrovia!

A: Lise / Alf - Come on guys, as long as people are willing to come to South Africa as tourists they are paying my wages which supports my family. I work in the tourism industry and there is no point in scaring people off. Alf - I agree with alot of your views but we were in the Kruger last weekend and were not attacked. Must I not go to Exeter now because some weirdo planted an explosive device? To answer your question: Bateleur is a satellite camp it is very nice but there is no shop if you need anything. Out of the four olifants will be the best, if you do stay there do not hesitate to pay a little bit extra for the view it is one the best setting inside the park.Satara is very busy and a bit to commercialised but if you are looking for good game viewing it is the place. Letaba is very good for elephants. If you are staying for few days try to spend a couple of night in different camps as the vegetation differs. It will give you a good view of the different eco system in this beautiful part of the world. As anyone else would tell you when visiting SA, don't show off valuables, be aware of your surroundings and lock your doors when driving your car. Basic common sense. If you have any other questions, you are welcome to e-mail me. Alf - how do I feel about earning money off the backs of people that are raped and murdered? - of course I hate what it is doing to our country - what should I do - join a convent and pray for everyone. Tourism is my job, has been for the last 12 years - I don't know anything else. Just because what other people are doing to tourists is immoral and the government cannot seem to get it under control, and I don't support it, you suggest people should no longer encourage visitors to SA. Let people decide for themselves.......
