Q: What's your first language at home? I am English married to an Afrikaans woman, but our first language at home is English (even though my wife wears the pants of power in our house), mainly because I am so K@K at Afrikaans - I grew up in KZN where there is not much Afrikaans, when I moved to the Cape I met my wife and took her back to KZN. I am particularly interested in those that have married someone whose first language is different to their first language. Gerald ek was al in die Kaap, ek het daar vir 8 Jaar gebly, en glo dit of nie, dit was op Stellenbosch - ek het lekker by de Akker gekuier. Hennie: It's present not preent - please make use of the spell check.

A: We have a totally bilingual household........Bull I feel like giving you a snotklap, I am proudly Afrikaans.....just joking. I speak only Afrikaans to my kids and they to me, my husband speaks only English to them and they to him. I speak Afrikaans to him and he English to me although my English is pretty good, for an Afrikaner. We are really totally bilingual and my kids have such a great advantage.
