Q: I have travelled to the USA as my husband is a citizen as well as my daughter, I am fascinated of what people think South Africa is like based on holidays there and the news they hear and see on TV For the moron that just called me a racist... I am a south african for incase you were too dof to realize what I was asking I am looking to know what people think of SA internationally

A: 3 years in South Africa has to rank right up at the top of my long list of life adventures. Where I lived I met whites, blacks and a lot of East Indians and all, to a man were very nice to me. I danced with a couple of Zulu warriors, tried my hand, or should I say neck, at carrying those bundles of thatching grass on my head - there are three black South African women over there still rolling around laughing at the crazy white woman who tried that. I swam in the beautiful blue Indian Ocean which is a much different experience from swimming in either the Atlantic or the Pacific here in Canada. And the Kango Caves - is there anything as black as the Kango Caves when they shut the lights off? Rode an ostrich - think I will stick with quarter horses though :o) Discovered Aloe Ferox - the best natural healer I have ever tried. The list is endless and thanks to Kodac, I can relive any of those adventures and more with the flip of a page. About the news we get about South Africa - well I take some of it with a grain of salt- the media have been known to exaggerate and to mislead for the sake of selling a story and I have family over there that can clue me in when I want to know what's going on. I do not necessarily agree with everyone's politics but what the hey! I don't agree with all the politics going on over here either. One thing I have learned about life is that what is true today may not be true tomorrow and that all confrontations eventually die and are replaced with new ones somewhere else. So we can hope that someone in Pretoria will go to bed tonight and wake up with a good solution tomorrow or next week or next month. I do not think anyone outside of South Africa is hoping for anything but an end to the trouble, some for altruistic reasons and some for selfish ones like so we can come back and visit without fear.
