Q: We have two men in our office who chat about nothing other than rugby and cricket all day, every day and by some delusion are under the impression that I would like to participate in their diatribes, why are South Africans so obsessed with sports, isn't there more to life or is it to conceal the reality of their decaying country under the corrupt, inept and criminal ANC? I enjoy the odd rugby and cricket match as much as the next individual but certainly don't take any interest in the kicking style of the Sharks fullback or what the weaknesses of the Bulls scrum are...... Am I alone in my frustration?
A: Nope. Not alone. Call me weird (I probably am), but I fail to see what could be so scintillating as to enthuse and wax lyrical, gesticulating loudly about a bunch of dudes chasing after or hitting a leather, or leather covered ball around a patch of grass. Give me a good book that I can actually learn something from, any day of the week.
