Q: Why did they only sing songs from 20 years ago at the Mandela concert? As a South African it hurts me to say this, but it is with a sad and bitter sense of irony that I note that there was nothing to celebrate South Africa TODAY at the Mandela concert, just harping on about 20 years ago and songs from the past.... What does that tell us......? What could we have sung about today?
A: Maybe, some people feel more comfortable in remembering the misery that was imposed on them in the past rather than divulge the misery that they are now inflicting on themselves. We could have sung about a " free" South Africa, but we have not reached that maturity yet. There are still far too many prejudiced minds that need much more than 20 years .
