Tunisia - driving to Ksar Ghilane?

Q: Is it possible to drive safely from Gabes to Ksar Ghilane in an ordinary car, or it is essential to have a 4WD?

A: ****EDIT- Okay, I found Ksar Ghilane. I would not chance it with a normal car as it is out in the Sahara and there are sand storms, and the roads often get dusted with a thick layer of sand. Want to hear a funny story? Earlier this year my family went to Tozeur for a mini vacation (beautiful city!). Anyways, while we were down there, I wanted to go to Ong Jemel to visit one of the Star Wars sets. Everyone told us that we needed to rent a 4X4, but my husband thought they were just saying that because they wanted money, so off we went in our little Fiat Punto (don't laugh - it's a true story!). The road was fine at first, then became VERY washboard and we had to go in second gear. We spent over an hour driving there, and when we were close (We could see the set) the road got covered with sand and our car got stuck! Luckily there was a guy riding by on a motorbike and he took my to visit the set (and get pictures) while my husband dug the car out! lol It was something that I will never forget (or do again!). Error on the safe side and take 4X4 so that you don't have any problems! Good luck and I hope you enjoy yourself! **** Are you talking about Ksar Hellal or Sahline? In either case, you do not need to have a 4WD to get to either place from Gabes. The roads are all paved and you need to take the national roads from Gabes Sfax. From Sfax you can take the A-1 (highway) to Monastir. Once in Monastir, you go in the direction you need (either West to Sahline, or South East to Ksar Hellal). Both Sahline and Ksar Hellal are in the Monastir jurisdiction. If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
