Q: I want to go next July but am a woman going on my own with apretty 11 year old girl with blond hair. Although we will be doing the usual tourist things, I would like to visit medinas etc. as well as travelling by train - to Tunis and possibly up to Sfax. How much hastle are we likely to get? How strict are the modesty rules etc? Any help would be appreciated.

A: You should not be hassled. You will find that the people here in Tunisia are very kind and especially considerate towards children. All types of clothing are appropriate. Tunisia is very modern and takes much of it's culture from France. Just out of common curtsy though, try not to bring anything too short or too revealing - you'll get a lot of stares and maybe some unwanted comments. This does not mean that you need to cover up completely or anything: During the summers I myself like to wear shorts, and sleeveless or short sleeved shirts and sandals.
