Q: iam goin to tunisia tunisia hammamet 25th january... whats the weather like? what should i pack? any advice of what to go and see? top attractions? Thank you

A: January is winter time in Tunisia. The weather is generally cold and rainy in all parts of the country (there is snow if you head up to the mountains), and if you are staying in a Sea cost resort (which Hammamet is), it is also humid which makes the weather feel even colder. If you plan of visiting the Sahara, not only will it be cold, but there will be a lot of dust storms at this time as well. You will want to pack clothes that you would normally pack if you are going somewhere in the winter. For a detailed look at the current temperatures, please go to: http://www.accutravel.net/hammamet/weather Another fun site to view is: http://www.weather2travel.com/climate-guides/index.php?destination=hammamet-yasmine It gives the averages on different things from outside temperature to Sea temperature to hours of sunlight and more for different parts of Tunisia. Temperatures are listed in Celsius, but to view them in Fahrenheit, just hover your mouse over the temperature you would like to see. I suggest that you bring: *pants and/or jeans *long sleeved shirts *sweaters *1 or 2 nice outfits to go out to the discos with or have a nice night on the town with *warm socks *closed toe shoes -make sure they're comfortable (boots or tennis shoes are good) *a warm jacket (hat, scarf, and mittens are optional, but most people use them here) *umbrella *sunglasses *camera (plenty of film if not digital; extra memory & batteries if it is digital) *toiletries *make-up *anything that you use to do your hair *small supply of various medicines in case you get sick Make sure you keep a reasonable amount of money on you, and keep some stashed away in your hotel room. Hammamet is pretty relaxed, and quiet. It is divided into two parts: The old city, and the new touristic city (called Yassmine Hammamet). The old city has it's charm because it has a nice medina and the city itself is wonderful to explore. There is an amusement park, restaurants and golf courses in Yassmine Hammamet as well. Here are websites that you may find useful: http://www.yasmine.com.tn/anglais/Welcome.html http://www.carthageland.com:82/eng/home.htm http://www.portyasmine.com.tn/English/index2.html A lot of the hotels offer many fun activities, most for a minimal price. Most hotels will also offer you a chance to take an excursion to see other cities and sights. You will be able to choose from some of the most popular places to visit, such as: *the multiple Star Wars filming locations *Toezer -famous for it's use of yellow bricks and a filming location for The English Patient *Matmata -a UNESCO world heritage site preserved for it's underground houses *the Sahara *Carthage -the former capital of the ancient world *El Jem -houses the largest in tact Romen Coliseum outside of Italy If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
