Q: I have never been to Tunisia before. Me and my boyfriend are going in March. Although I would like to just sit on the beach my boyfriend likes to be occupied. He would like to go on a Safari for a day is there any such thing or is it to far? Is there anyone that could give me some ideas of what there is to do with prices and info please?

A: March here in Tunisia is spring time. During this time Tunisia goes through a lot of weather changes, like most places. One day sunny (not hot though - you still need a coat or light jacket depending on the temperature and wind), and one day rainy or foggy. To be fully prepared for the changing weather in March, I would suggest you bring some long sleeved (not too hot) & short sleeved shirts, some pants, shorts, a bathing suit (at the minimum you could swim in the hotel pool if the Sea is still too cold for your liking), a sweater or a light jacket, and an umbrella. The nights are chilly due to the humidity which makes the cold go straight to the bone and makes it feel colder than it really is, so I would also suggest bringing something warm to sleep in at nights. Here are some of my personal pictures that depict what the weather looks like in winter/early spring here in Tunisia: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/sets/72157594580139346/ You could check this site as it gets closer to your arrival day for up to date info: http://weather.yahoo.com/regional/TSXX.html (I gave the link to the whole of Tunisia because I don't know what city you will be staying in.) You can click to see temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Another fun site to view is: http://www.weather2travel.com/climate-guides/index.php?country=tunisia It gives the averages on different things from outside temperature to Sea temperature to hours of sunlight and more for different parts of Tunisia. Temperatures are listed in Celsius, but to view them in Fahrenheit, just hover your mouse over the temperature you would like to see. As for safaris, there are none in Tunisia. That is done more in middle Africa nations. You can however go for excursions to the Sahara. Your hotel will have a few tour operators that offer different trip packages, and prices vary according to company, length of trip, and the type of trip you choose. I must warn you though, in the spring the Sahara is still cool, and there are a LOT of dust storms because it's windy during the spring. We took a family trip to the Sahara last March and needed to wear long sleeved shirts/light sweaters and a light jacket over. (People fail to realize that the Sahara is just sand. When temperatures are low, there is not enough warmth to make it hot.) A fun thing that we did while we were there, and I'm sure your boyfriend would like) is quads. We took about an hour trip for 25TND a person. There is also a Star Wars set in the middle of the Sahara. You will need to rent a 4X4 to get there (40TND). It is really nice to walk around and see the set and explore. I advise that if you do go to the Sahara, stop in the market in the morning and buy buy a long colored cloth, and have the man teach you how to wrap it into a hat with face protection for yourselves. It will protect your hair and face from all the dust that you will encounter. If you'd like to see the pictures from when we went last year, here they are: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/sets/72157600015923032/ If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
