Q: I'm a British primary teacher currently living in Cairo, and am married to a Tunisian. Are there any British schools there, and do you think I could work in an American school? I have done my own research, and only found the American school of Tunis, not any British Schools...actually

A: There are not any British schools in Tunisia. You can try to get a job as a tutor, if that may be of interest to you. Before you can even think of getting a job here in Tunisia, you must have a properly drawn-up contract which has been endorsed by the Ministry of Social Affairs. Foreigners are not allowed to do jobs which Tunisians could normally fill. You cannot apply for such a contract yourself. When an employer has offered you a job, you will draw up a contract by mutual consent and it is incumbent on your employer to get proper ministerial endorsement of it. Second, your credentials will have to meet those of the Tunisian standard and you will need proper documentation to prove it. I do not know if you will have to pass another exam or not. I suggest that you contact the British Embassy here in Tunisia for further information on how to go about gaining employment: Consular Services British Embassy Rue du Lac Windermere 1053 Les Berges du Lac, Tunis TUNISIA Telephone:+216.71.108.782 Fax:+216.71.108.779 E-mail: TunisConsular.Tunis@fco.gov.uk Website: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1017170890085 Here is an article published by the British Embassy here in Tunisia that talks about UK Nationals who want to work in Tunisia: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1022256794319 If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me anytime.
