Sand flies in tunisia?

Q: Hi, I have been told that youshould avoid being bitten by sandflies while on the beach in Tunisia. Can anyone please tell me how on earth I can avoid this happening. As far as Icanread beingbitten on holidayin Tunisia seems almost unavoidable.

A: Sandflys are attracted to targets that are still. If you are moving, you stand a lesser chance of getting bitten. When you are sitting down or laying on the beach, try to cover up - something light like a little bathing suit wrap does nicely. Also, avoid hanging out by things such as open food, make sure you take your trash out (and don't sit by any!). In all honesty, I have rarely been bitten by them, so in my opinion, they are not as big of a problem for me as they can be for others. If you are still worried about them, bring a bottle of insect repellent with you. The stores sell a device that you plug into an outlet that will keep most insects away, even if you have your doors or windows open. The pharmacies here sell insect repellent that works very well. The one that we use if we are going to be out in humid areas is called Mousticalm. It works very well for more than just mosquitoes. If you do happen to get bit, you can buy a cream called Parfederm, and it works really well to calm the itching and also works wonders if you get stung by a jelly fish. If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
