Q:

A: There is no such thing as minimum wage in both Qatar and Dubai. The reason being is that most of the workers are foreigners and the work is governed by a contract between the employer & employee. Whatever is stipulated in the contract is the once legal. The contract is for an specified time and can be renewed with different clauses or particulars compared to the previous or terminated. Ex. A waiter/waitress can be offered a salary fo US$ 200 or 500. Some people will accept the US$200, say Indian nationals but not the Philippines. An employer will offer an Indian National a job with salary of US$500 and with the same job profile it can offered to a Bangladeshi for US$300 but for a European ist can be as high as US$1000 !!! And we are talking the same job profile and title. As you see - there is really no such thing as minimum wage in both places as some employer will definitely compare their wage offers to the standard of living of the countries where the employee is coming from with some additional perks of a n expatriate. Goodluck !
