Q: i'm a freelance graphic designer. my boyfriend was just hired to teach at the university in dubai. we are both americans. although he has a contract, i do not, and am wondering how difficult it might be to freelance there, acquire health insurance etc... without having set up anything in advance. any recommendations are welcome. thanks

A: If you want to freelance you have to get a license at the freezone authority. Make sure you comply to the Tecom law. Check the license fee section: http://www.tecom.ae/law/law_24.htm Registration seems to be the easiest in person, the Dubai Media City site is not very clear: http://www.dubaimediacity.ae/ Have a look for insurance info: http://www.startpagedubai.com/financials.htm
