Q: I with my family are coming to Dubai for 1 week in August 08, i just wanted to know how much AED should i have to entertain my self for 1 week. We have done hotel booking but would like to know food outside as hotel food would be expensive. what about shopping is it the same as in UK or could get cheap things there. I know Dubai is one of the expensive cities in world but still a rough estimation would be ideal, I was thinking of 2000AED would be fine but again would appreciate any suggestion, and if any budget hotels in deira n bur dubai, the hotel i booked is quite expensive. So please help me in making my trip wonderful
A: Your question is not easy to answer. You did not mention how big your family is. How many kids, what's their age and their interests. You also do not mention you Nationality what makes it hard to recommened any food places. Anyway: there are many small places (cafeterias) run by Indians and Philippinos where you can get a good meal for a decent price (means, much cheaper than in the hotels). The food courts in the malls would be another alternative. The prices there are almost comparable with the prices in Europe. The cheapest place to go shopping is the Dragon mart. This is the biggest Chinese mart outside China. What ever you want, you'll find it there and it will be cheaper than anywhere else. Please be aware: if you are looking for certain things, it may not be the original, but.......... Only goods not imported from the West will be cheaper over here. You will not save any money buying goods in Dubai imported from the West. Depending on how many kids you have (you are talking about a family) Dhs 2000 may be kind of short. Please do not underestimate the transportation cost of the cabs. If you maybe want to visit the Wadi Water Park, Dhs 150 per person is gone already.
